the 4l60 and the 4l80 were both available on the chevby 1/2 ton trucks( 4l80 was a special order deal) the easiest way to find out what you have is a: call the local chevy dealership and give your VIN to the parts department. b: get uinder the truck and count the bolts. 16 bolts on the transmission pan=4l60E 17 bolts=4l80E could be either way.

Could it be a 700R4 like the one in my 1991 Chevrolet Scottsdale 2500. If so mine cost me $1458.00 to have rebuilt. I almost let the truck go because of the price. I do not hotrod it any more either. Look on ebaymotors under parts cars and used parts for your transmission and you may find one that will work fairly close to home. I am in NW Tennessee.
