You elevate the number to the power 2 like this:

x^2

You should still do the normal product but it is easier to thing you et the square of a certain number and most calculators already have the elevate to the second power function integrated

it is dependent to ur number....forexample if u have a number like:
x5(x is a digit and not multiplied) then ur multiply or power of 2 becomes like: x.(x+1)25
such as
15*15=1*2 25=225
25*25=2*3 25=625

Say the numbers are like this. the total of digits at units place is 10 and other higher place portion is same.
eg.
124 *126= 12*(12+1)....+24
=12*13............+24
