I went to the emergency room 3 weeks ago and I found that I was supposedly 6 weeks pregnant. Then I went tonight because of bleeding and cramping. The doctor told me that I was 6 weeks pregnant and they couldn't find a heartbeat. Then the doctor told there is a possilbilty that I had a miscarriage. Can someone please tell what the doctor means when he can't find a heartbeat and that I'm 6 weeks along when I'm suppose to be 9 weeks? Does that mean I had a miscarriage?

Honey, I'm so sorry for your loss.

The Doctor should have taken the time to explain this to you. I had the same thing happen to me.

I was around 7 weeks pregnant and cramping and spotting. I went to my Doctor and he sent me for an Ultrasound. The Doctor at the Diagnostic Center came in and said that I was pregnant with Twins and everything was alright and that they heard two strong heartbeats. The cramping and spotting continued and I again asked my Doctor to send me yet again for another Ultrasound. This time a different Doctor came in and told me that I have miscarried one twin and the other twin had no heartbeat. I just stared at him. He continued on, in a very cold manner, and said that I would have to have a D & C done to "clean me out". When he left the room, the Technican was still in the room and she couldn't look me directly in the eye. I asked her exactly what he meant and she tried to calmly explain to me that (a) one twin had miscarried and (b) since there was no heartbeat with the second twin, even though I was still pregnant, my baby died inside of me, which is why the Doctor recommended the D & C.

You haven't had a miscarriage, but your baby has gone to Heaven to be with God. I'm so, so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and I'll say a Prayer for both you and your baby.

I dont believe at that stage in your pregnancy you could hear a heartbeat or even see it quite yet, and I wonder if he was looking for the heart beat on an ultra sound why he wouldnt tell you matter of factly the condition of your baby. I wouldnt have left the hospital with out knowing. I don't really believe a possible miscarriage, is a go home and let us know if you do sort of thing. They usually can tell for sure and then if necessary perform a DNC to remove the fetus. I would just call the doctor back and ask for a clearer diagnosis. Even the ER doctor will take your call. Is there a follow up appointment?

are you serious? what Dr. did you go to? if there was even the possibility that you had a miscarriage you would not be sitting at that pc typing this question. are you playing some kind of game? i sure hope so cause i would hate to think any Dr sent you home in that condition. you need to go to a real Dr and make sure. as far as the weeks thing goes this could mean nothing. i was about to deliver my daughter and they were still telling me i had 3 weeks til my due date. she was just a very small baby i guess. also the heartbeat thing can also just mean that the baby was turned wrong or something. it is often hard to determine a heartbeat at that stage. i would hope they at least did an ultrasound, but i'm guessing they didn't since you are here asking. bottom line see a real DR ASAP!

I have had a miscarriage. The Dr should have done an ultra sound. They can see even the youngest baby's heart beat on that. It can not be herd until you are about 3 months pregnant. Bleeding and cramping can also be the baby connecting to the uterine wall. I have had successful pregnancy's one time I bleed alot in the beging the Dr told me I may have been carring twins and lost one. The other one is fine though. You Dr should do a blood test to see if you pregnancy hormones are increasing or decreasing. Good luck.

I don't want to upset you but here's my story. With my first pregnancy I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks. The fetus was only the size of a 8 week fetus. The doctor said when you have a miscarriage the fetus shrinks. My guess is that's probably what happened in your case. They say 1 out of 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage. That doesn't make it any easier to swallow believe I know,I've been there.Don't be discouraged though.I was.Everything happens for a reason, six days after my D&C I was pregnant again and now I realize if I would have carried the first baby I wouldn't have my beautiful 4yr. old.I would be happy to talk to you about it if you need some support, email me.Good Luck,I'll be praying for you.

It is hard to narrow down how far along you are they can only guess by using ultrasound and measuring the fetus but yes if there is no heart beat to be found and you still are bleeding you could have had a miscarriage the bleeding will continue and you will cramp as will this is a type of contraction that you are feeling.

Do not get panic .first of all you were pregnant by 6 weeks And you have gone to a doctor since you had a bleeding and cramping.
Then the Dr. told You after examining that there is no heart beat for the child.and said there is a possibility of miscarriage that is all, please do a check up with a gynaecologist and confirm this miscarriage.
good luck. immediately you go to the Lady Dr. and have a check up done since Your health is also important.

The same thing happened to my friend. she only measured for 8 weeks, when she was supposed to be like 12 weeks, when she started having cramping and bleeding. The baby had stopped developing at 8 weeks, but the bleeding didn't start until a few weeks later.
That is probably what has happened in your case. The baby has stopped developing and more or less died at 6 weeks. But your body hasn't started disposing of it until now.

I would call an ob/gyn first thing in the morning. Keep calling around until you can get in tomorrow. I didn't hear my 1st baby's heartbeat until I was over 3 months preg. my dr. had to do an ultrasound to see the baby and he was fine. The bleeding and cramping though could be scary. I would go to a professional in that field. Don't get me wrong er dr's are great but not all of them are specialists in that field.
