Why not replace it with a dvd burner? You will still have dvd playback and can burn both cd's and dvd's.

Just make sure to purchase the retail version for the burning software. Some of the OEM drives ship with software, the pictures or item description will let you know which ones.

Try LiteOn or ASUS, or LG (if you lucky youl'll find the best, if not you'll get the worst). Don't use Samsung. It sucks!
