Santa Claus was an invention of the Coca-Cola company to sell their carbonated cocaine-based sugar water. Originally, he wore a green suit, but that was changed to red to attract more attention.
Other Christmas icons, like Father Christmas, Saint Nicolas, and the like are based on real persons, but are highly fictionalized.
So, Virginia, take your choise. You can see Santa as an Americanization of European myth based on real persons or as a total figment of American marketing.

Sort of - Maybe not Santa Clause as a person, but the Spirit of Santa Clause is real. Besides it's just fun to believe the magic and wonder of something that makes so many people, especially children so happy.

he's so not real he's one of those made up people to give kids an extra kick wHOOO ' then some day you see that hes not real and your like hmm... it makes no sense 2 me why parents lie to kids about this stuff 4 some one should make a world wide aperance and tell the world full of kids santa doesnt exist and from there on out leave it that way

Yes, I believe in Santa Claus. If you don't believe you don't get any presents from him. He is as real as you want him to be, and I want him to be real.

I don't think he's real either! I think he was just abig fat guy who worked for coke and dropped one of his kids presents down a drain pipe and Mr. Coca-Cola said BAM! let's create Santa Claus!

Of course he is real! He lives in the North Pole! I wonder how did he survive the freezing temperatures of the North Pole or put his toy workshop in the middle of a frozen ocean.

He's deffinently real. I caught him one time trying to eat my double stuff oreos out of the pantry, but i told him "nah bro....don't do it...you might not make your next delivery."
