Im at 39 weeks and had my membranes stripped today. Im at 80% effaced and 2cm dilated. With my first pregnancy, the next day my water started leaking... did this work for anyone else and how long did it take?

The term "stripping your membranes" essentially means that your Dr. manually massaged your cervix in hopes of releasing the hormones that begin contractions. This method does work but ONLY if your body has already produced enough of those hormones in the first place. If your body is not ready, nothing will happen. I know that you are tired of being pregnant and want that new baby in your arms but just be patient. He/She will be here soon enough. Everyone is different and just because you are only 2cm does not mean that you couldn't go into labor today so get ready!!

ITS CALLED SWEEPING
they put their fingers through your cervix and sweep them over the membranes

LABOUR IS NOT ALWAYS IMMEDIATE
This stimulates an oxytocin release but may need to be done daily for a few days to work in some ladies and also if your body is not quite ready to give in and labour.

SEX also helps
The prostoglandins in semen help ripen the cervix so if you can stand it during late pregnancy have fun with your partner

Castor oil and orange juice.........
.yuck sounds foul but helps also if your body is ready (will also make u POOP)
Good luck

I had mine stripped with both of my kids on a Friday check-up. My kids were born on a Sunday and a Monday following that visit, so it took 2-3 days.
