Eventually, you meet up with both of them in The World That Never Was, and Riku will actual become a partner, helping you fight, but only in TWTNW. During the Final Battle with Xemnas, he will be the only one helping you fight.

Riku makes a few cameo appearances before the town that never was. THen you meet Kairi as you prepare for the final battles and in the last three battles with Xemnas you get to fight with Riku!
