You can't go wrong with a simple black dress. Don't go for anything bright or garish; black is slimming, and more importantly, elegant.
And BTW, have a great time!

I'm so happy you are attending the dinner I hope you have a wonderful time..
wear something that is very comfortable that you don't have to fuss with...adjusting.
Not knowing where you are going or how fancy the occasion wear something conservative.. since it's summer..light material that flows, like a top and skirt. or a brown linen dress would be very nice and cool looking..with a scooped neck and little capped sleeves. Plus a light wrap if it at night...crocheted jacket...
some amber jewelery, dressy sandals..and medium sized purse not too small or too big so your outfit will look balanced.

try a black dress as it is the most slimming and typically an A-Line skirt with float away from the midsection not drawing attention to it and depending on the size of your bust try a deep V neck, showing an appropriate amount of skin and will drawn attention away from more unflattering areas. A nice heel will elongate and slim your legs. Have fun!!

Do you know if you have a Torrid at your mall? Or look online, I'm sure they have a website, It's the cutest store, i swear. One of my friends works there and she wears the most adorable stuff. Everything is very fashion forward, can fit any age as long as you want to look good. Other than that, you know what looks good on you, so wear what you like=)

I think it depends what type of dinner you are attending...Is it Casual, Dress Up, Romantic...etc.etc.
My advice...whatever the occasion, go with a dark color it helps to look more thinner, something sexy but yet Ladish.
Have a great time!

Lane Bryant's has lovely plus size fashions. Let a sales person help you pick out something appropriate.

Whatever makes you feel pretty and is comfortable. A nice suit is always appropriate, or, a dress.
Enjoy the dinner!

A dress is the most formal. But, if you have extra weight, please cover the arms, no matter what your age. A long black dress is the most basic, casual, and chic piece of clothing you will ever own.
