Is it just a figure of speach or something?

it is a silly figure of speech that people usually use when they are corrected about something and they are embarassed and act like it is no big deal! yeah, it means like "same thing" or whatever. i think it is kind of a smarty remark and i dont like it much!

It means that it doesn't make a bit of difference whether you do a or b; it's all the same, at least the way they see it.

The difference is the same i.e. no difference. Same diff, no diff.. it doesn't really seem to matter it just means 'the same thing'.
