i am not too sure it depends on how strong the pregnancy hormone is in your blood to be accurate just wait until after the 1st day of your missed period!

it did for me, but are you talking like you had your period and three weeks from the day it started you're taking the test? Despite what the home tests advertize they udually do NOT show a positive until about the day of your expected period, (notice they say in those ads that say they an predict up to 5 days before your missed period whether you are pregnant or not, the fine print says something like, in 65% of women... that's a little over average and if you're in the other 45% it may not work for you) a blood test taken by a doctor can be more accurate, but generally if you at the time you're period should start and you take the test you can take those results to the bank... occassionally you might have to wait a day or two until after your expected day of your period to get a positive result (it really depends on how regular you are). But please know if you are taking the test BEFORE your period is supposed to start and you get a POSITIVE the test results are RIGHT, my doctor told me that there are RARELY false positive pregnancy tests (even in take home tests) because the results simply CANNOT give you a positive if the hormone they are designed to detect isn't there, it is much more likely that a negative result is wrong (due to low hormone levels OR some mistake made in the test taking or manufacturing of the test). Also certain things in your urine can interfere with a positive test result (I was told blood in your urine, like if you had a bladder infection and it caused you to bleed among others can give you a false negative result) so IF you get a negative result and you are SURE you are pregnant try the test again later or see your doctor for a blood test.

When to test for pregnancy
Some pregnancy tests claim to be able to detect if a woman is pregnant 5 days before an expected period. As every woman is different, and we all produce the pregnancy hormone hCG at a different rate, some have to wait until their period is due, or even a few days afterwards to get a positive result.
When testing before your period is due, it is advised to test with your first morning urine because the level of hCG is more concentrated then.

It really depends there are pregnancy tests where supposedly they are able to detect the hcg hormone at a very early stage in pregnancy, such as the First Response, but it really depends on your body and how fast you produce these hormones. I had a test on 05/22/06, both urine and blood work, and they both came out negative and then I had test again on 05/31/2006, because my period was late, and that one came out positive. Therefore, you really cannot go by anybody elses experiences, you need to wait first if your period is late and then you have more chances of the test being accurate. Good Luck.

Absolutely. Go to the doctor for a blood test to be 200% sure though. If you're 3 weeks you should go to the doctor anyway.
