my wife accidentely formatted her dard disk while trying to install xp in her thinkpad.

Well, you can't install windows without formating first. If Windows has actually been installed then there is nothing you can do, and almost all of the data will have been lost. If windows didn't finish installing, you can hook the hard disk up to another computer, and use a data recovery program to retrieve the files. Those programs can be found online for $20-$50.

Just go ahead continue installing and you've got a fresh installation, i feel sorry for what your wife did, its ok... dont go in for data recovery or anything just get along and go ahead with whats left of the formated disk :)

pretty much all that data is "out the window", now this is exactly why I hate microsoft. But your off on a new start now.
