WHY IS HE "TAKING THE BABY"
unless your friend is
~contracting (in labour)
~the waters have broken and there is sign of infection
~the baby is not growing because the placenta is failing
there is no reason to take the baby out...............a cervix can thin without delivery she needs to rest, not walk about too much no sex and not to do any thing strenuous, have regular checkups and good medical support

PREMATURITY IS AN ISSUE
There is a risk of
~ Babys lungs are poorly developed if at all and will always need respiratory support and then possibly for life have major chronic lung problems I hope they have offered her steroids
~cerebral palsy due to prematurity
~Retinal Detatchment blindness with long term oxygen therapy
~feeding problems this baby will be tube fed for quite some time
~INfection due to their immune systems being unable to cope

SUPPORT YOUR FRIEND
Be there for her, make sure she has the best medical opinion, before they deliver
Support her during the countless hours days weeks and months she will be in and out of hospital visiting her baby

The survival of a 22 week fetus is slim to none. The child, if survived, will have several problems.

Your friend should seek a second opinion, perhaps a specialist in your area.

the doctor could inject a medication that causes the lungs to mature faster, giving the baby a better chance of breathing on its own. about 50 percent of babies born in the second trimester survive in intensive care, and 1 in 5 suffer from blindness or other disabilities.

best of luck.

The lungs aren't developed enough. They are still quite underweight. Maybe she can do bedrest for the rest of the pregnancy - full gestation and that would help. I've of them stitching the cervix too to prevent labour but I don't have enough information for you.

my cousin had a son at 23 weeks. He was kep in an incubator for a month and a half. He had to eat through a tube and he could not breathe on his own. He also had to gain a certain amount of weight in order to be sent home. The doctors sent him home at four months, but he still had to be on oxygen at night time. I want to wish your friend the best of luck and I 'll keep her in my prayers.

The chances are very slim. My little sister was born at 28 weeks she's five years old now. I was born at 30 weeks .

i dont believe that the lungs are fully developed yet unless they will give her something to help that. the baby will be very very small and probably have very slim chances. u have to think that is only half way thru the pregnancy so not much is developed completly yet.

it's possible to be born at 5 1/2 months, it will just be premature and be kept in the hospital for a long time. It will probably have physical and or mental problems.
