If your employer wants you to file by number, file exactly in numerical order.

If your employer wants you to file alphabetically, go by the first letter. If the first letter is the same go by the 2nd letter in the name or word. If those are the same, go by the 3rd letter, and so on.

If there are both letters and numbers in the name or word, file by the first alphabetic letter first, just as above, and then by the letters in their order:

Marie
Marietta
Marietta 1
Mary

Create a folder on your computer
Create several documents in that folder using Notepad
Name the documents dave01,fred,234, 7wendi etc...

Open the folder and click on the "Name" entry
HOW DOES WINDOWS DO IT?

P.S. You must have XP to allow a filename beginning with a number
