to MISS POLY...you rub your marriage in my face.
I have no idea why people are so against gay marriage...I am gay, and I do NOT want to get married. But, in fairness, the legal protections offered Straights are denied the same tax-paying gays...Gays have no rights of inheritance, Social Security Benefits, etc. I have known couples who spent a life together, both contributing equally to the assests, who, in stupidity, did not write iron-clad wills. The family of one who had died, came in, broke the will, and took everything that the couple had amassed in a lifetime, leaving the guy left behind with nothing! Things are pretty sad in this world, and this prejudice just makes things sadder. Oh, and by the way...your question wording is cute. I am gay and gray...well, what's left of it, anyway. :-)

Interesting that most rational Americans see and understand that.
It is the responsibility of each person taking those vows to prove their sanctity, not legislation.
More than half of those who engage in "holy matrimony" don't take it seriously enough to fulfil their promises.
How can I take it seriously when those same people want to ban the unions of others?
Because straight people have been doing it since the begining of time? Well, they have been screwing it up for that long, too.
I am stunned beyond understanding when they attempt to use the Bible to defend their blatent disregard for constitutional equality.
In the Bible, nearly EVERY old testament character who "found favor with God" was sexually deviant by today's standard of such.
Just King David, for example. He begins his career as the Old Testament's most renown Patriarchs by cutting the peckers off tens of thousands of men and delivers them to King Saul. Marrys one of Saul's daughters and has a questionable relationship with one of Saul's son's. Has an affair, has a man killed so that he can not be charged with sleeping with another man's wife, bla, bla, bla. This was a person who the Bible describes as "a man after God's own heart."
I'm supposed to take this seriously? All of that is ok, but I can't get married. Hmmmmmm, I'm thinking I'm hearing that ugly buzzer sound when the wrong answer is given on a game show.

I am a non-religious gay man, so therefore, to me, the idea of getting married is beyond me. now, im not just saying that for gay couples but for heterosexual couples also.
for years, i have known two heterosexual couples who refuse to get married due to the religious ties that marriage upholds. here in New Zealand we have Civil Unions. This is effectively a 'marriage' for both heterosexual and homosexual couples but without the religious ties. all of the legal issues are exactly the same, effectively its just hte religous bollocks thats been cut out!
If it were my preference, well a Civil Union is the way to go!

I don't think that it is a question of how their marriage would affect yours. It's more of a question of changing the definition of what a marriage is, a definition that has existed for over 2 thousand years. To change the definition that means so much to so many, for the sake of a minority of people to be politically correct at the moment seems drastic. Unfortunately, what is giving this a lot of momentum is conservatives who do not want to bend, and freaky gays that just want to shock people. If the media focused on the "normal acting and looking" gays and not the freaks, they would be further ahead.

there is no way a gay marriage will affect you, i am against gay marriage but for gay union with the same rights as a married man and woman. for me the issue is using the word marriage. that is a sacred vow that i make before God, and for people to change the meaning of the word to fit their life style angers me, because all the accepting and tolerance i am to show for gay people, they show no respect to me and what i consider sacred, the word marriage between a man and a woman....i don't care what other people do with their personal lives, but stop changing the definitions of words to fit your life style...i think their are other issues at hand too...if you say married is between two who love each other, what is next. women marrying their dog or cat. they are two that love each other...where does it stop...

if you really look at the marriages and divorces among the heterosexual couples, it's just a sham for those who preach about the sanctity of a marriage!! It's like the Pope saying homosexual behaviour is a sin committed against god...yet through out history , those who claim to serve god continuing molest and sexually abuse children behind the close doors of churches!!

it will threaten the marriages of all homphobes across America, one homosexual might get to close and leave their married cooties around the neighborhood, turning straight people gay everywhere, we will have an epidemic ,pritty soon straight people will be a tiny minority, that could fill the state of maryland shouldered with the burden of reproducing Americans for the whole damn country, : )

our marriages dont effect the relationship between you and your husband. i mean no one in a good marriage is going to get divorced because two guys get married. This is just a knee jerk reaction from people who don't understand that not everyone in the world is like them

Sorry, turntable and like-minded haters, it is simply ridiculous to consider marriage in this society "sacred"! Most people couldn't tell you what they proclaimed in their vows if you asked them.
Why are people so against gay marriage? NO ONE seems to be standing up against marriages between the IGNORANT or the shallow-minded!
Not to mention that gay couples don't necessarily have gay children.
However, IGNORANCE & PREJUDICE BREEDS IGNORANCE & PREJUDICE!
