if you have a pc:

go to your Start menu -> All Programs -> Accesories -> System Tools -> Disc Clean up (first do this one) then when its done (it takes some time, its not something fast and quick) then do the 'Disc Defragmation'

you should do this at least once a month depending on how much you use your computer and how much data you insert.

i do it on mine whenever it begins to do funny things. i use my lap top a lot on doing 3d rendering and using heavy software, so it actually makes a difference when i do the clean up.

While reformatting will work, I wouldn't start there unless your system is totally hosed. You're probably going to have to do a combination of things. The programs mentioned are either free or have a full functioning trial.

1. Uninstall programs you don't need using a program like My Uninstaller.

2. Deleting tmp files and other backup type files. Window Washer does a good job of this.

3. Defragmenting the hd

4. Checking the registry for orphan entries with a tool like JV Power Tools

Go to start> programs> accessories> system tools> disk cleanup. When its done, leave WebClient/Publisher temporary files alone. You can check box the rest. Hit OK. /////// Another tip for a faster leaner machine is to .. right click My Computer> select Properties> select Advanced> under Performance, select Settings. Then under visual effects, select the custom circle box. Have these boxes checkmarked only .."smooth edges of screen fonts", "use common tasks in folders", and " Use visual styles on windows and buttons." Leave rest empty. Select Apply, then OK. Youre done. Probably wont even tell the difference visual wise and now your laptop should run remarkably faster. Give it a little time and test it out. Works wonders for me. Hope this works for ya. =o)

get rid of all readme files, txt files, jpg that you don't need and then go to a web page, on the tool bar click on Tools, go to Internet Options, delete all cookies, delete temp files, and clean out your history. Then go to system tools in accessories and do a disk clean up and then defrag your computer. This should help a bit. I usually do this once a week myself. Good Luck!!!!
