Very good question. Women can be very tough to work with because their insecurities are completely different than men's. A bitchy woman boss is typically someone who is not 100% confident in her abilities and she compensates for it by being a ***** which gives her (them) a false feeling of authority, experience, knowledge and power. The best way to deal with it is to try and identify what you feel she might be insecure about (without EVER asking her) and then praise her in that area. For example, let's say she bitches about your time or your work that you turn in or something you do or fail to do, you could say something like "I appreciate the feedback and I value your experience so thanks for pointing it out to me, I'll take care of it" or "I'll look into it" if it's not something tangible. Other than that, just understanding her lack of professionalism is actually teaching you something very valuable and that is that when you become a person of authority, you will be there because you earned it, deserve it and respect it and therefore you will treat your employees with professionalism and dignity. Good for you.

Yes, more info would be helpful. What is she bitchy about? Everything with everyone or does it focus on your performance? Have you been responsive to the "bitchiness" and gotten any positive feedback? Take some time and see what she's really trying to express. She may just have trouble being a supervisor.
I land in the middle of the bitchy ladder. The middle man filtering and passing on the complaints and recommendations in both directions. Definitely easier to say the boss thinks we need to do XYZ than meeting with the boss and saying the staff think you should XYZ it yourself.

I go to my happy place. I tell myself this 'I am great at my job. I am an energy in this universe, and mine is a positive energy. Negative engery does not invade my space'. I acutally picture myself walking in a bubble. That is my happy space. Every time there is an outside force feeding me energy or input, it is into my bubble through a 'straw'. If the energy coming in is takes away from 'me', then I metally pull that straw. My happy space is mine. I know this sounds silly, but it actually works. Her probelms our hers. Your problems are yours. Your mind controls your 'problems'. Your mind has the power over you. Be positive. Keep in that happy space. I acutally have gotten so good at this that I recently was in extreme physical pain and I went to that happy place, and I actually almost slept. My muscles relaxed, the outside world seemed unimportant in the big picture of the universe. It really does work.

How I would deal with it depends on my role in the company, the working environment, the size and support structure of managment, and my perception of the effect of my actions on my position in the company. I'm afraid you have not provided enough information for that question to be answered intelligently.

... i've looked everywhere on the planet for 1 place where there are no "difficult" people ... i've learned that such a place doesn't exist ... there are going 2/B "bad eggs" everywhere you go ... I've learned that when the "difficult" person leaves, they are eventually replaced by someone just as rotten ... remember the Serenity Prayer ... there's nothing you can do about it ... so just get on with life and try to ignore the bad stuff ... focus on what's right about your job instead of dwelling on what you hate ... instead of telling God how big your mountain is ... try telling your mountain how big your God is ...

If you aren't willing to move on, then there's not a whole lot you can do besides grin and bear it. She's the boss and can conduct herself as she pleases, so long as HER bosses like the results they get.

Give her chocolate. Or ask if she has anything nice to say.......ever! I asked one of my co-workers the same thing. I asked her if anything pleasant ever came out of her face. Some people just don't get it.

Kill her with kindness and then go home and punch a heavy bag and pretend it is her.
