They are very small and most people probably don't even notice them. But if you look closely at a pic-nic table you'll probably spot a few of them running around.

I've seen the little tiny bugs, I call them velvet mites or blood mites because if you accidentally squish one it leaves a red smear.
There are a lot of red mites and most of them feed on plants or woody material. But the pictures show them so much larger than actual size that it's distracting. Next time you see them look at one under a hand lens and count its legs; if there are 8 it's a mite!
