I had an amnio done and it confirmed that he had it, he didnt have an aorta in his heart, cysts on both sides of his brain, club feet, an enlarged valve in his heart, and a hole in one chamber of his heart, they said that he would live more then 2 hrs cause of the no aorta. I almost had an abortion, it was the hardest thing that I have ever been through, I canceled the abortion 3 days b4, something came over me, I was at peace with it, at first I thought that it would be too hard to watch him die in my arms, little IAN MICHAEL fought for 29 hrs. I wouldnt trade those hrs for anything, well except to have him in my arms right now........so anyone thinking of having an abortion because of a fatal disorder, please dont, little Ian has changed my life forever, and I have lots of pictures and video to remember him by.

First let me say, I am sorry to hear about your son Ian. May God give you some comfort during this time.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my first Ob/gyn told me that my daughter was going to (and I quote), "retarded and not live past 6 months old". I was terrifed and my first thought was abortion. My daughter's father refused to sign the paperwork for me to have the abortion. Here in Michigan you have to have your husband's okay if married. After switching ob/gyns, my second doctor sent me for a stage 3 ultra sound. During this test (about 6 weeks later), everything came back normal. During the six weeks it took me to get the second appoinment, I reseached everything I could get my hands on T-18. To my suprise there are many children that live a longer life, but not with much quality. Somehow God answered my prayer, and saved my baby. She is my only child, as I was younger I gave a child up to the hateful arms of abortion and also had 2 miscarriages.

When I was pregnant with my first child the doctors thought he had trisomy 18, thank god he did not, It is a chromosomal defect, and will cause a baby to live a maximum of three days after birth and die, believe me I went through extensive testing for this. don't worry about it until the test results come back from the amniocentesis that will let you know for sure.

I don't personally know anyone who has endured your pain, but there is a web site you can visit, trisomy18.org it is a support network.
