By cracking, do you mean "popping", like when you stretch your shoulders from side to side and hear the "pop" or "thud" sounds?
If so, that is NOT a cause of arthritis. What DOES cause arthritis, is the absence of cartilage and the rubbing of bone-on-bone. Much like if you had very dry, or unoiled wheels. You'd hear a squeek sound, only with knees, fingers, elbows, and other joints., it would be more like a searing pain.
Another, more common cause is repetitive use of the limbs., or lack of it. That is why overweight people have problems with their knees, and thinner people do as well. One very important way to prevent it is to excersice on a regular basis, not being too strenuous, and making sure you get plenty of calcium. That can be found in milk, and other foods (just look them up, I'm not an encyclopedia! :P)
And if you have food alergies that do not allow you to eat those foods rich in calcium, you can take a calcium suppliment available over-the-counter at almost any store. You can find them at WalMart, Walgreen's, CVS... just go to the vitamin aisle.

Knuckle cracking does not cause arthritis, enlarged joints, or other musculoskeletal problems, say experts. The popping sound results when the two opposing bones in the knuckles are pulled apart, which creates a vacuum within the joint. A small amount of gas dissolved in the joint fluid is quickly released, forming a bubble that almost instantly collapses and produces the noise.

A single event is not enough to cause damage to the joint, although it is possible that prolonged joint stress due to cracking knuckles may eventually lead to a higher risk of joint damage. The long-term consequences of this practice have not been studied thoroughly, and the scientific evidence is inconclusive.

I'm no expert on this, but I would say yes. When you are bending your joint over and over again, after so long, this could cause some weakness, and arthritis is in the joints. I train people with arthritis and believe me you don't want to hurry it along! This is only my opinion, a educated guess.

Cracking your nuckles actually decreases your chances of getting arthritis because it relieves the pressure of air contrary to what people believed about it actually causing artritis.

eventually it can. years of cracking will lead to old age arthritis, but so will many other things.
it's important to drink milk (or if not milk, get your calcium from somewhere else) to help build up your bones now, so you have less problems with them as you age.
calcium for life is important!

No arthritis is caused by an autoimmune disorder. Which means your body attacks itself, there is no known cause, but they say genetics may play a factor.
