The baby probably isn't moving as much because she doesn't have much space to do so. If your doctor had any suspicion that your or your baby's life is in danger they would have induced you already. Let nature run its course and rest for the big day!

Heart rate is fine. I think your boyfriend is right; unless you're experiencing some new and worrisome symptoms, you should assume that everything is fine. You were, as you say, just checked out by your doctor.
Late in pregnancies babies stop moving around as much. They don't have any room (as you well know!) and their heads are locked in place. If you're doing your kick counts at night and hitting your target number, you shouldn't worry.
As for asking to be induced, I think you should rely on your doctor's judgement. From my experience, I would say that being induced SUCKS and that unless there is a compelling medical reason to do it, you should just let nature take its course. My first daughter was induced at 37-38 weeks due to preeclampsia. The induction didn't take the first time (prostaglandin gel), so they had to reapply. It worked the second time, but not as strongly as they wanted, so they broke my water and administered IV pitocin. I ended up going through 52 hours of labor, 3 hours of pushing, fetal and maternal distress, and an emergency C-section. There were two good things about it: my lovely daughter, Phoebe, and the simple fact that I will never be induced again! (My second daughter also came via C-section due to preeclampsia and the skeletal abnormality that made it impossible to deliver Phoebe the normal way...)

Baby moving less often
When you first heard from your baby, way back in the fourth or fifth month, there was ample room in the uterus for acrobatics, and lots of kicking and punching. Now that his conditions are gtting a little cramped, his gymnastics are curtailed. In this uterine straitjacket, there is room for little more than turning, twisting, and wiggling. And once the head is firmly engaged in the pelvis, baby will be even less mobile. It's not important what kind of fetal movement you feel at this stafe, as long as yu note activity every day. If however, you feel no activity, or a sudden spurt of very paniicky activity, check with your practitioner.
I'm going to include the link to a pregnancy and parenting forum that I think you might find useful. It's full of supportive women with boundless knowledge about these issues. I learnt so much there that I doubt I would have learnt otherwise. Hope you sign up!

If your doc thinks she's fine don't worry sweetie. She's not only big enough that she doesn't have much room to move but she's also resting because birth is also stressful on the baby. You won't need to remind your doc about weither or not to induce, she'll remember. But you know what don't worry... babies know when they are ready and nature knows what it's doing. Being overdue is nothing to worry about it's just a pain in the butt. Your doc knows your body and if she's not worried don't worry! Too many women these days are inducing and having c-sections.... our bodies were made for this... we need to trust that more.
Try to take it easy, Hug your boyfriend alot for taking care of you, Trust your doc and get the house ready for the baby You'll be fine!
God bless you and keep you and bless your baby with health long life and grace!

Ok well toward the end of the pregnancy it is normal for her to not move as much since she is all out of space. So unless she stops moving a lot or all together than it should be no worries. If you are still worried though, always call your obgyn just in case. And about the being induced, if your doctor thinks it is a good idea, then she will suggest it. Inducing is safe, when I had my daughter I was induced too but for safety, not for my comfort factor. You don't want to risk anything happening to your baby, right? Just make sure you tell your doctor about the decrease in movement and talk to her about natural ways to go into labor... Spicy food, castor oil, and sex. Good Luck and hopefully your labor will be an easy one! Congrats!

it sounds like everything is fine from what you said. if the doc found anything wrong they would have set you up for a c-section or induced you right away. at the end of the pregnancy the baby doesn't have much room at all to move around especially if the baby is in position for delivery. plus they need to save their energy for their entry into the world. just relax. about the induction, i would just wait. the longer the baby is in you the stronger and healthier they will be when they do come out.
good luck and congrats!!!

At 39 weeks your baby is too big to move very much! That is why there is less movement now. Induced labor is sometimes not so great...waiting to see if it happens naturally is better. Get a cold drink, put your feet up, relax and practice your baby names to make sure it is perfect!

It is normal for baby to slow down movements in the last couple weeks. Baby is running out of room. Just listen to doctor. I know you are ready to get baby out, and if you want to induce, the baby will be fully developed. If you don't have baby by week 40, get induced. Baby may get too big and have to have a c section.

as long as you are still feeling movement you should be fine..... they dont usually induce labor until about 42 weeks, especially with a first baby.... first babies are generally late.... (i know you dont want to hear that) but if you had any signs of beginning labor stages your doc would have let you know...
remember that baby doesnt have much room to move in there, so she may "rest" more.... but as long as you are feeling movement several times a day, then nothing to worry about..
