If you are selling, I recommend Great Britain. They speak English, shipping rates are reasonable, and the strength of the British Pound compared to the dollar makes buying American a real bargain for the Brits.

The best country to do business for you probably has more to do with your situation though than global trade economics. Think about what you are buying or selling, and where you may find a trade advantage. Speaking a foreign language, or have friends, family, or contacts in a foreign country are all strong assets that may make profitable trade through one country much more accessible than another.

If you are unsure about your business partner's ability to pay, use a business escrow service. Credit card based escrow transactions can be the easiest. Visa offers this service and information is available on their corporate website. Escrow.com is also a good place to start.

Be sure to check on taxes and legal restrictions. Finding a reliable courier to ship your goods is also very important. Try DHL, UPS, or Overseas Alliance Group, USA. Important questions to ask your international shipping courier include:

Is it legal to ship this item to country X?
What import/export/value-added taxes must be paid?
What is the best way to ship, and how much will it cost?
What documentation is required?
How can international shipments be insured?

International transactions are very doable, but it pays off to do your homework first. One friend I do business with has his products manufactured in China. While Chinese firms can offer low prices, be careful to make sure you are getting what you think you are. It took my friend about one year to find a manufacturer who would do the job right. After a great deal of frustration and many failed attempts to meet product specifications, he now works with a good Chinese manufacturing company that does a great job.

philippines- its the hidden secret of Asia. Check out all the items at Pier 1 imports, most came from Philippines, browse through the items at Michael's Craft store, there are many Philippine products, even at Sam's club there are many Philippine made products. The Philippines have many established and world class competitive brands like bench and penshoppe, check out their website benchtm.com and penshoppe.com they can compete directly with popular stores like american eagle and abercombrie and fitch. These trends shows that the country have many things to offer aside from traditional crafts. added to that the dollar is more than fifty times the value, which means having the dollar is definitely a business advantage

Think of countries that aspire to be like your country, but are a long way off. That way, you know alot about them. What do they need at their level to bring them along. Do you have access to those things at good prices? Then that is a good country to begin selling to. Best is if that country also has a market in your country - clothing, wood, tea, technology, etc. Then there is mutual regard, and possible shipping benefits.

It is probably Sri Lanka: due to their high moral code at low cost, this is your best bet.
