Is it normal for a third grader to be 5'1?

I work at a latch key and one of the girls there is 5'1 and is only in the third grade. She stands out alot. Is it normal to be the tall when your that young. She is only 8 or 9 yrs old.

It's unusual, but it does happen. She is probably hitting puberty much earlier than other girls. It will make her feel self conscious and may create problems with the way other girls see her and relate to her. She also faces the problem of looking older than her age, causing people to expect her to behave more maturely. You can best help her by realizing that however she looks, she has the mind and emotions of a 3rd grade girl. Intervene if she seems to be the subject of teasing and help her find ways to connect to her peers. We had one little girl in this situation in the school I work at and it actually made a big difference for her when we switched over to having uniforms. That helped the other girls see her as being more similar to them. In a couple years, more of the girls will be shooting up, and by 7th grade, the odd ones out will be the girls who haven't hit puberty yet.

That is tall for a third grader but I think she is still normal and I think she will become tall when she grow up. I think that she is proud of herself and it's Ok to be different.

It might be unusual but it's still normal. She'll probably grow up to be a tall beautiful woman. I'm 5'11 and I like being tall.

It is purfectly normal to be very tall for your age...everybody grows at different times and everyone has a different shape and size than others....At least your aren't in the 7th grade and 4'6!!!

Normal is what is normal for her. She must have tall parents.
