If I were you, I would call a reputable pest company. Both are serious and can ruin a house quickly! Call right away. Without seeing your house, no one can really advise you best!

Ants and termites enjoy different lifestyles and feed on different things, they dont necessarily like or dislike each other, they rarely compete with each other. But, unfortunately, you can have both living in or around your home. Termites destroy wood that originates underground. They will create tunnels through the wood and tubes to travel in but they need to return to the earth. That is why they usually begin damaging the foundational timbers or buried wood. Carpenter ants are particularly fond of water-damaged wood and are often found in rotting trees, bathroom walls or roofs. Several breakthrough treatments have been recently been developed and involve a baiting process. Soil contaminants that were used in the past can be dangerous- it is usually recommended that you leave treatments up to professionals. Before you contact exterminators, go to the library or extension office website and learn a little about the insects and the treatments. Some less than honest salespersons use not so true but very frightening stories to scare you into a contract. Ask for references, talk to neighbors and friends, and get a written contract.

No. I was told by an Orkin man that they can live separately or together. Just because you have one , does not mean that you have the other.
