The US government's foreign policy dictates that democracy be spread around the world. The World Court did try and hold the US for war crimes. The US told the world court to 'stick it'. I believe it was Colin Powell they wanted to try.
If you don't like democracy. Good for you. Just stay out of the US. Thank you.

Self defense. It is every country's right. If you are talking about Iraq, forget about WMD, or terrorist safe-havens, they were firing at our jets on a daily basis. Jets that were enforcing a no-fly zone that Iraq agreed to at the end of desert storm. That alone gave us the right to step in and take that government out. The fact that they were developing WMD programs, the fact that they screwed around with the weapons inspectors, the fact that they protected know terrorists also gave the US reasons for the attack.
The US Government is faulty, but make no mistake about it, without the US the world would be ruled by despots like Saddam and Hitler.

If you read the Declaration of Independence I think you will find the answer there as well as the guide lines for such action. Unfortunately some of our leaders have failed to read it as well as understand the magnitude of its implications on the world. our latest "leader " has taken the powers of his office to the extreme, clearly testing the will of the people that wrote ,lived and died to protect the true meaning of our Declaration and the constitution of our country. I agree with your underlying statement within your question and perhaps someday (or our next leader) Will exercise the restraint necessary to assist a Govt's (other than the US) to respect what our forefathers stood for. Not only for the citizens of this country and Its' Leaders but for all generations of all peoples on this Great Island called Earth.

No one, it was George Bush's own undertaking, that was after we didn't find WMD'S. They should be, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and a few assorted Generals. They should be tried for the atrocity's also. Killing of innocent Iraq's, torture in the prisons. Many, many things they should have to answer for.

When a government threatens the safety and security of Americans, I would hope our government would do whatever it had to ensure our safety. Sometimes it is military action, sometimes it is economic pressure, sometimes it is sneaky, covert subversive stuff.
