I have 256mb in slot no. 1 . Can I add 512mb in slot no. 2 without a problem. The memory capacity is 2048mb. Will these two slots with different card not effect the speed?

Most memory sites recommend if you are installing memory with different MB ratings (512, 256, 128, etc.) the largest should go in slot # 1, the next largest in slot # 2, etc.

when you say the maximum capacity is 2048MB, then it's DDR memory and so it's absolutely possible to have a 256MB and a 512MB stick without any problem.
