It shouldn't mean anything unless he is a bank robber or something, what goes on in a persons private life has nothing to do with his ability to be a good public servant.

I agree that it doesn't necessarily matter what your mechanic, or plumber does in their spare time, but they are not in a publicly appointed position. Consider the possibility for corruption and bribes, etc people of power encounter. They are in far too important a position for even their personal life not to be exceptional.

If any public figure has major personal problems, they are not fit to lead this country.

To me, it matters alot! If a public servant can't handle their own money/business affairs, why should we depend on him/her to use taxpayer money/time wisely and for the good of the people, and not himself! If he's intolerant of children or the elderly, I'd not want him making descisions on the upkeep of a nursing home facility that my parents my need the services of, nor the daycare that my grandchildren may oneday attend... Just a matter of thinking ahead and getting priorties in line..

It might affect my vote. Depends on what the issue is in his/her personal life. If he committed a crime, got caught with drugs, or something's going on that affects his/her ability to function as an effective leader, that would be significant to me.

To me, not at all. Just as I don't care what my mechanic does in his spare time, I don't care what my politician does either. As long as he does a good job, that's all that matters.
