I was told that white gold jewelry starts off as yellow gold, and is dipped and through a process turns white.
I have well water and my rings turn dingy. I have to keep getting them dipped. Can I have a jeweler turn them back to yellow gold so they look nicer?

I know that they can be cleaned by a jeweler, I've had that done. My rocks are shiny, it is the metal that is the problem. The white gold looses its brilliance. I hope someone understands what I mean.

It is true that white gold starts off as yellow. Palladium is the alloy in yellow that makes it appear white. White gold is a dull grey before coating with rodium. The rodium coating is what makes the gold white. Rodium can wear off for a varity of reasons, acid levels in the skin and contact with different minerais such as found in well water. The yellow gold comes to the surface when the rodium is removed. An all yellow gold ring will change white if coated in rodium but a white gold ring cannot be changed to all yellow because of the alloy. If you want an inexpensive quick, but not permanent solution you have to have the ring gold electroplated. However, plating will wear off the ring. The only permanent solution is to have the ring redone or reset in yellow gold.

You can have your rings clearned by a jeweler yes. Gold generally doesn't get that bad. Maybe you need a new ring with a higher caret.
