yes... I hate being put into that poor hick steriotype. Most people believe that just because we live in the south we are redneck hillbilies and we all sit on the front porch with our 18 kids... and 25 dogs. I hate that...

no, i don't, because in the final analysis it doesn't matter in the least what anyone thinks, says or assumes about me, least of all someone that has no significance to my life. it's a strange personality quirk i have, and i don't take myself that seriously to begin with. i don't make such assumptions about people either, or judge them based on where they are from, their appearance, or how many children they have or don't have. and certainly i would expect the same consideration from someone that has a pattern of thinking that has progressed past that of a 16 year old. i have known quite a few people from mississippi, as well as have been good friends with some throughout my life, and generally they have been pretty good people, although i have met some idiots from there, just as i have from anywhere else.

I understand completely. I'm from Kentucky and people just automatically assume that I'm toothless, barefoot, poor, and uneducated. While it's true that I personally hate to wear shoes, the rest is totally false. I have all my teeth and I may not be the richest in the world but I'm certainly not dirt poor, plus I don't think having a college degree could be construed as being uneducated.

Yes. I am from West Virginia and I don't have a slew of kids nor am I illiterate. I don't go to family reunions to find a date either. To add to this I don't know anybody that has married a relative either. I proudly call myself a hillbilly but thats because we have very beautiful hills that surround us. Yes I live in the mountains, I was born and raised in the mountains. But that doesn't mean I don't know right from wrong. My parents had manners and they taught me manners. I am very proud to call myself a Mountaineer.

Hi Sam.
An old saying"never judge a book by its cover.
In all cities and towns there are nice people and nasty people.
Class is how you live as an individual it has nothing to do with where one lives or doesn't live..
A little saying "Misfortune doesn't always come to injure.
Take care!

Well some people are ignorant and make assumptions about people. Don't be discouraged. On the other hand, I'm sure that the women on this blog that are overweight and have several children may be offended (No, I'm not one).

We live in a mobile home community.
There an indoor swimming pool, basketball court, playground, picnic areas. It's all fenced in with paved roads, ample parking, speed bumps. The neighbors are quiet and respectable. The kids are safe.
But as soon as you say you live in a mobile home, people automatically think "TRAILER TRASH"!

I know EXACTLY how you feel; living in Texas, I am automatically assumed to be a country-loving hick with an accent who can't pass up a good line dance. None of which are true. Yeah, I hate it.

Yes! I'm from Texas. I don't own a horse, a cowboy hat or boots. I am not a "hick".
But from what I've read/heard over the years, thats automatically what people assume.
