I have used both and prefer liquid because it doesnt' cake like powder. Also, no matter what kind of budget I am on, ALWAYS buy Tide. I can tell a big difference in how clean my laundry gets.

I prefer a liquid laundry detergent. Clothes can be added to the washer right away. Also, if you live in a rural area and have your own septic system liquid detergent is easier on the system. Powder detergents will build up and could clog the drainage tile.

powder takes time to dissolve, as to the liquid has already done so. also, you can rub a dab of the liquid on a fresh stain to soak for about 15 minutes prior to washing. powder also seems to make more of a mess by spilling where you use it, powder catches to the air like and gathers like dust

With any detergent, liquid is better, because it dissolve with water faster and it's ready for washing cycle right away, with the powder you have to wait until the washer it's full and the powder it's dissolve to put the clothes in the washer.

Liquid definately. Powder can cake easily, leaving marks on your clothing, and can also leave nasty build-up in the washer.

liquid is better because powder can stick to your cloths if your load is to large.

They are equal in performance. It is a preference if one chooses the one over the other. I prefer powder, I think it is easier to measure...but that's what I prefer. Both of them work well.
