I need to research specific information written by Columbus, himself either in his logbooks during his journeys to the new world or his personal letters. It looks like I will have to sift through a lot of it, but I am not sure where to start. thanks for your help

There are many published volumes containing translations of the logbooks and letters of Columbus. Here are the titles of the two best of these. You should also be able to find these books in any decent library. They're also available pretty cheaply at many online bookstores.

The Four Voyages : Being His Own Log-Book, Letters and Dispatches with Connecting Narratives.. (Penguin Classics)
by Christopher Columbus, J. M. Cohen (Translator)

The Diario of Christopher Columbus's First Voyage to America, 1492-1493 (American Exploration & Travel Series, Vol 70)
by Oliver Dunn, James E. Kelley

Additionally, the links below contain excerpts from Columbus' logbooks. The complete logbooks are not available online.

Best wishes!

try going into a time machine and then on one of his ships with him and look over his shoulder and read whatever he writes
