okay here is what I think....still a little unclear
x=9th grade
x+8=8th grade
3/4(x+8)=11th grade

so...
x+ x+8+ 3/4(x+8)=96

x+x+8+3/4x+6=96
combine terms
2 3/4x + 14=96
subtract 14 from both sides
2 3/4x=82
divide each side by 2 3/4
x=29 9/11
then round up
9th grade =30
8th grade =38
11th grade=28 (actually it is28 1/2 but bc you can't have 1/2 of a person it is 28)

not quite clear, 8th grade is more than 9th....

8th is more than 9th BY 8 pupils? or 9th grade HAS 8 pupils?

Let me know, and I'll try to walk you through it.
