Republicans control both houses of Congress and the executive branch of government, and some say conservatives control the Supreme Court. Even though the President's poll numbers are low, Congress' numbers are much lower, (for both dems and republicans)((not good news for the dems)). There is wishful thinking about a Democrat victory in the next election, but no solid evidence to substantiate it. What led to the decline of faith in the Democrat Party? If you disagree with my question, please state in detail why. No bloaviating please.

dc, you say the republicans are falling from favor as if the democrats are not also falling right alongside them. They call that "the pot calling the kettle black".

My opinion: the Democrats have not had a strong, charismatic candidate for President since Clinton, and have had the same problem with many Senatorial and Congressional elections. Also the Republicans have been very good about their "market research" and know the right issues to promote, to get their candidates elected. I do not care for George Bush and most certainly did not vote for him, but his public relations and strategy planning teams do an amazing job. They are always first to bring up "hot" issues, things that people get heavily emotionally involved, and have done a nice job of picking some issues that really have no deep impact on the country but are guaranteed to rally supporters.
For example, gay marriage... now, in the grand scheme of things, unless you are a gay person who wants to get married, gay marriage is not going to change your life. Most companies offer domestic partner benefits already so your insurance won't go up, and if the gay guys down the street have a wedding, that won't magically turn you gay too. But it's a very hot issue and people who oppose gay marriage will be very loyal to a candidate who does too. And don't get me wrong--- I support gay marriage but I know it won't change my life one bit (except I guess I will have to buy some wedding gifts!).
I do think there will be a Democratic turn in the mid-term elections but that may also be wishful thinking on my part. Many Republican candidates are distancing themselves from the President, where they usually would bend over backwards to have the President on the campaign trail with them. Whether or not the Democrats take advantage of how the Republicans are falling from favor is another story, though!
PS The Supreme Court is leaning towards the Conservative side now but that's an appointed position, not an elected one, so we can thank all those who voted for Bush for that...

truly no longer. The Republicans may have a *a lot* more suitable sturdy time garnering established help after this election than the Democrats will. even with the undeniable fact that if the Democrats lose the presidency, they're going to maximum probably administration both the Senate and the domicile of Representatives. they are no longer going everywhere, trust me.

Because a huge percentage of this country is Christian. Democrats, as a general rule, stand for things that are NOT Christian. Gay marriage, abortion, and other things that no Christian could ever approve of. No REAL Christian that is. No matter how the republicans screw things up, we'd rather have a screwed up republican in office than a murder-promoting democrat!
At least the republicans have the decency to keep their murders private. :)

Gullible people embraced what the repuglicans said. We will lower your taxes, we are against gay marriage, ect. They have hammered it into many people. Try to tell a repug. that they got $20 in tax breaks. They will deny it, they will defend it. Try and tell a repug that the war in Iraq is not about 9/11, try and tell the repugs anything, they are not to bright. Because they will continue to embrace that all the dems want to do is make a commie country out of ours. It is to bad that we could not have one election country wide that is about the issues and not a vicious attack on the other candidate.

Right now I think people in individual states should vote for whomever will help with the issues of their individual state.
For example, I vote for Arlen Spector, a republican. He just made sense to me. I am a registered democrat.
That being said, I feel that if a viable candidate runs for the White House in '08, it doesn't matter to me if they are Democrat, Republican, or Independent. I will vote for whomever can take on the task of reuniting this country and fixing the detrimental problems that we, and our children, are facing.

... the parties are always switching around... I'm not so sure it's something that the party "did wrong" as much as people seem to loose faith in who ever is in office...
As to the decline of faith... I haven't seem it, so why don't you explain that one yourself? We just want everyone to be free to worship what ever they want too... no real restrictions... Christians take this as an assault on them... which it's not... we're just not taking their side...
