I am 13 and about to use a tampon for the first time. I am afraid it will break my hymen. My mom said it wont but I need another opinion. Will it break and will it hurt? Even if it doesnt break will inserting it hurt?

im 20 and let me tell you..your hymen can break when you are jumping rope! seriously. some girls have a thick hymen while on other girls the layer of skin is extremely thin. Dont worry if it does...this does not mean you're not a virgin sweetie. As far as a tampon. It should not hurt. You may feel just a tiny tiny bit of discomfort but nothing more. If it hurts you havent inserted it right. Remeber your vagina is tilted towards the back..not straight like you think.

Hymens are tricky things. They can be broken by normal every day activities. Like bike riding or yes a tampon. I broke mine horseback riding. It is painful but it is not unbearable. There will be blood. You will feel pressure when you insert the tampon but it shouldnt be painful. You probably wont tear the hymen so dont worry about it or you will work yourself into unnecessary panic. There is a good chance that you will not be able to get the tampon in the first few times. It is because you are relatively youg and your vagina is not able to accomidate it because the vagina is simply not big enough. I would wait until you are 15 or older to try and use one. Best of Luck.

Firstly, you know their are different sizes. You definately want the regular size. It also depends on if you get it placed right. If you don't place it right, it will feel very uncomfortable.
Do know that I have a forty year old friend that claims they hurt and refuses to use them at all. I personally can't stand to not use them. Be sure to read the info. about toxic shock symdrome because this is a very real and deadly side effect. Good luck with your stick of dynomite:)

I never heard of a tampon breaking a hymen.I thought they were a little uncomfortable, keep trying you get experienced on exactly how to put them in. Then they shouldn't be uncomfortable anymore. Some people just don't care for them or trust them. You know about leaking out before you change it.

It could break it but it shouldnt hurt.. Just make sure to be relaxed when you put it in and make sure to follow directions after the first couple of times you should get the hang of it!! Good Luck!

it doesnt hurt if you insert it correctly...and once its in, you should be able to feel it..if its uncomfortable, just take it out and try again. its easiest to put in/take out when your period is the heaviest..if its really light (like the last day or too..but of course everyone is different), i recommend using a pad because it may be painful to use a tampon.

just be relaxed.. it will be more difficult and maybe a little more uncomfortable if your not relaxed. I had a horrible time when I first started using tampons, but now I wouldn't go without them! Just try again if it's not right the first time

no it wont break your hymen. it says in my 'your changing body and reproduction' book for science. only intercourse can break your hymen.but sometimes it doesnt to most girls. an untorn hymen is how people used to tell if the girl was virgin or not.your still a virgin if you wanna be.

If you're nervous about it, just use pads. Tampons shouldn't hurt- get the teen tampons from playtex with the plastic applicators if you do, they're easier to use.
