Well, you have to have intercourse at the right time of the month. About 14 days after the first day of your period. Then maybe or maybe not, the sperm will meet with the egg that you released from your ovaries around that 14th day. The egg will continue to travel down you fallopian tubes to your uterus where it may or may not implant in the lining of your uterus (womb). You see, that lining is what we shed every month during our period, and then for the next week or two, it builds itself back up so that it can shelter a baby.
About 2 weeks later you should be getting your period. If it's more than a week or two late, you can pretty much place a safe bet that you're pregnant. Especially if you have other symptoms. The first symptoms of pregnancy are usually breast soreness, signs of PMS with no period actually happening (even CRAMPS!), and possibly nausea, but that usually occurs about 2-4 weeks after your period was due, if it's going to happen at all.

Please read more about this, because every single woman should know how her reproductive system works. There's no excuse for ignorance when there are so many sources of information. (I'm not calling you ignorant because you did ask about it, where many people just don't care to know!)

Usually whilst a person and a girl have sexual sex (intercourse) the mans sperm is going into the lady's frame and fertilizes a million or extra eggs, and that is the way you get pregnant. Hope I helped! ;)
