aside from which side you hit, is there any physical difference between the beater and the resonance heads of an acoustic drum set?

i'm a fairly new to the concepts of drumming, and i've decided its time for new heads, and i'm not sure whether i need to buy two separate kinds, or if two identical packages would be okay? or should i just replace the beater heads? or maybe i should just save a few dollars for a while and buy a whole new set, considering mine is rather old, and cheap to begin with..maybe a new pearl or tama set would be the better choice? any advice or help would be greeaatt! the best advice, obviously, gets the best answer! thanxx all!!

There is definately a difference. The resonance heads are for the bottom of the drum. if its just the top, youll want batter heads. Unless you turned them around and played on them (which you really shouldnt) the resonance heads shouldnt be damaged. Definately do not buy a new set. you can make any old set sound great, you just need to tune it and muffle it properly. The only reason you should buy a new set is if youve cracked the shells.

There is a big difference between the batter and the resonate heads. The resonate head is on the bottom of the drum and the batter head is on the top. The resonate head is much thinner because it is what allows the drum to sing when you hit it.

im a tama fan so i recomend them.but if there is nothing wrong with the drums then just replace the heads.remo makes affordable heads wich are decent but always consider when shopping that you get what you pay for.i dont think you need the most expensive set on the market but i definitaly wouldnt go for the cheapest
