Yes, I would hope that I have taught them to make good choices, but there comes a point in time when you have to step aside as a parent and let them fly on their own. There are lessions to be learned and if the choices they make in life are contrary to the law then they have to deal with those consequences. That is the problem with society, to many people are let off and don't have to pay for their actions, what kind of message does that send to the younger generation. As tough as that may seem, to me it is a part of learning and growing and becoming a better person. There needs to be consequences for our actions and if my child deserved the punishment handed down then who am I to step in and fix the problem.

Yes. It would hurt me terribly, but if they'd done something that required jail-time, they'd need to be punished. It would also depend on what they'd done.
As an influential person, I should set an example for other parents by letting my children learn lessons the hard way.

Yes. Because if he/she deserves it then off to jail he/she goes. No special treatment because I'm a special person. A parent is a parent.

yes. they are responsible for their actions - not me. it doesn't matter if I'm influential, the answer is still the same. why shouldn't they go to jail if they deserve it?

I wouldn't. My parents once saved my *** and my parents are always right. Jail isn't a place to learn a lesson. It's a place that makes you worse. If you can get your kid out of going to jail. Do it.

I think that if I were to buy my child out of punishment it would teach that what they did was realy ok, that they are above the law, and are better than the law, because they can buty their way out. they would nor learn anything, except to have a parent pay evertime they get in trouble, and it will only get worse

Depends.

I would say no, but then again there is this family that has a son and I wish his butt would go to jail.

Can't be hypocritical now, can I?

If they were truly guilty, absolutely yes. Why? Because they need to realize that they should take responsibility for their mistakes.

Have fun in the slammer by the way. What did you do?

2006-06-07 19:35:55 · answer #9 · answered by my brain hurts 5 · 0 0

yes because they must learn to be responsible for their own actions and they must also learn to follow the rules set forth by society in order to become an asset to society instead of a liability
