i've never questioned that fact that soccer players are good athletes, they are. it's just that soccer is a really gay and boring sport. it's popular in europe and south america and that's fine, go nuts. but here in america we like our sports manly and hard hitting. soccer is for sissies

Soccer requires a different skill set than football. Soccer players indeed have the cardio-conditioning over football players, but using that logic is to say that marathon runners are more athletic than soccer players, and then there are ultra-marathons.
.
Football's level of athleticism requires differesnt things at different positions. Top defensive backs in the NFL have world class speed, the agility to cut on a dime, and the toughness and stamina to cosistently tackle players bigger than they are.
.
Put any pro soccer player into an NFL game and they would be begging for mercy by half-time. If they survived at all.

The athleticism is completely different in the two sports. It would be like trying to decide who is the most athletic between a a marathoner, a sprinter, and a shot putter. One is incredibly strong, another extremely fast over short distances, and the other can run forever.
Soccer values endurance and agility over brute strength. That being said the different positions in both sports focus on different athletic gifts as well.
Finally, time outs in American football are used to control the clock to allow a team more time to score. Typically a time out in football is not used to give the team a rest. Plus even though the clock doesn't stop soccer players do manage to grab short rests when the ball is not near them. You see plenty of players jogging slowly or standing around at various times during the game.

"Athletic" can mean many things. I think that the word 'fat' is being used incorrectly. Although I do respect the game of soccer, I don't think that the greatest soccer player of all time Pele can run a 4.5, tackle an offensive lineman; and then run down a QB. now that's athletic to me. Soccer players, on the other hand, possess wizardry when handling the ball.

yes u need to work hard to be great at anything but u do have to have some natural born talent. u can still be decent without it. but the exceptional players have that extra edge of being born with a special talent for what they do and it makes it that much easier for them to work hard at whatever theyre doing cuz they have a knack for it. its a lot like art. not everybody has that ability. u can be taught how to be decent but to be exceptionally great u have to have a born talent for it. now it sounds like ur brother will just be a good athlete anyways but that doesnt mean he'll definitely be good at soccer. im not saying he wont be good. but its not guaranteed that he will. i would just do what u say ur planning on doing. start practicing with him in a fun playful way and then as he gets older and gets more experience on a team u can get more serious about training him. but dont be like a dumb parent and pressure him. cuz then he'll just end up resenting u and he may end up disliking soccer for it. that almost happened to me so i know.

why is it that soccer fans are always defending their game? You never hear football players saying,"football is better than soccer because..."
Stop being insecure about your "sport" and stop making noise. If soccer was so much better you wouldn't have to tell us.

imo, there are two types of athletic, as stated above. for soccer, it requires a lean figure that can continue to have energy throughout a long period of time. For football, however, they need to be strong, (not fat) and be able to put forth quick bursts of needed energy for a play.
