I think that is one of those "it depends on the woman" questions. Our cycles are so individual as it is and when you add a factor like the Pill into it, it's just not possible to give a definitive answer that will fit all women. I came off it after close to 15 years, skipped my first period altogether and then settled into a predictable 29 day cycle (exactly what it was prior to going on the Pill to begin with.) I'm sure will hear several much longer timeframes based on the experience of other women.

Were your periods regular before going on the pill? If so, most women return to normal within a few months of stopping the pill. But if they weren't regular before you went on the pill, they probably won't be after you stop taking it. If you've been off the pill for a while and your periods aren't back to normal, see your doctor. It's possible that the pill could have been covering up an underlying problem.

I came off it for a year to give my body a rest as I was worried I was mucking up my system - I'd been on it for about 10 years. I never regained a regular period during that time (I had been totally regular beforehand), so I think there are various extremes.

The most important thing is that you listen to your body and if you're worried for any reason, go to a Dr to make sure. Better to be thought slightly over-anxious than to miss something.

I was on mine for 7 years and it took a good 6 week for anything to appear periods-wise, then a further 2months or so to settle into a rythum (sorry, cant spell today!) so youve got to give it some time

It should regulate it's self within a few months. If not try some the herb VITEX. I've heard nothing but positive things about it. I recently started taking it myself and I'm waiting for some results...lol! But Google it and read up on it for yourself.

Have you asked the doctor that prescribed it for you? I'll bet (s)he gives you the best answer, especially since things in your medical history might influence the result.
