we have been trying it with our nine month daughter when she does that. but I dont think they really understand it. try distracting him with something, like when he is exicited you clap your hands , or smile and laugh loudly and clap your hands. our daughter does clap her hands at times, so I guess that works.
and try clipping his nails every week, because they tend to grow faster in infants

A baby that young does not understand no. Every baby does that. You'll just have to get use to it. My 1 year old has a fascination with grabbing my nose (by the nostril). now that hurts!! If people get mad at your son for doing things like that they will just have to get over it. You can keep telling him no and pull his hands away or hold them. That way he will understand what no means when he gets older. But as far as it being effective now, that's very unlikely.

Almost any that can crawl or talk can understand 'no', whenever your son gets excited, try playing with him, like peek a boo or something. Or just simply tell him 'no', and when he doesn't listen, get the sternest face you can make and try putting him in his room, or taking away a favorite toy. Don't take away a blankee or something that the child takes everwhere he goes, but a new toy he's excited about. If this doesn't work, try repeating for awhile till he gets the picture. Good luck!

Yes, even if he doesn't understand at first he will soon cetch on. Just don't let it ever slide even if it is cute. It is too hard for him to understand its ok now but not then...When telling him no grab his hand so he associates the no with the slapping or clawing.

They understand no and even if he does not you are still getting him use to the word. This might sound harsh but I had to do it to my daughter because she walked at 8 months and was in to everything. Try to give him a little tap on his hand and say no at the same time and tell him that hurts. This worked for my daughter she started to leave things alone quickly, hope it works for you. good luck

At 9 months telling a baby no is good to start teaching him. If he pinches or slaps pull his hand away and firmly say, "no." You can also say, "no, don't pinch." Even though he won't necessarily understand what you're saying, he will learn. The sooner you start setting boundaries, the easier it is as he gets older.

He'll pick up on the tone of voice and the look on your face as much as the word itself.Say "no" firmly and with a stern face. He'll catch on if you are consistent. How is he to understand that it is cute sometimes and hurtful at others, if you aren't?

my daughter does the same things and she will be 9 months in one week . i do think she understands the tone in your voice though i haven't told her no for any of those things i don't know why but when she crawls towards something she is not supposta
touch we will say her name and say no is a semi firm voice and use our finger and she will stop in her tracks and look at you
it doesn't always deter her but sometimes she will turn around and come back .. so i think they understand more that we think..

Yes this is the start of knowing the word and making a choice to ignor it. The attention span is short too, so he may just be too busy with his own thoughts.
