Because Wayne Newton is a human being, and not a ball of gas living in space.
Seriously, he kind of is a star, since he's considered part of Vegas. People go to Vegas, they go to see Seigried and Roy get their faces bitten off by big cats, and they see Wayne Newton. I have to tell you, that sort of notoriety/fame without having to tour on a bus for 18 months sounds pretty good, actually.

Wayne Newton is better than a star. He's an institution. When the flavor-of-the-week pop stars are all gone, Wayne will still be there.

Wayne is an incredibly talented star that has been doing his thing for a long time and I would say at least among older folks he is known world wide.

I can't believe no-one else has heard of Wayne Newton! God, I was at school with the dude! He had a reputation for sub-atamic particle physics like you wouldn't believe! A fantastic philosopher, could build a camper-van from the ground-up, juggle, raise the dead, feed the masses, eradicate world debt and then, for a laugh, make a meranguie.
Or am I thinking of DWAYNE Newton?

He was a one hit wonder child singer with "Danke Schoen" and "Daddy don't you walk so fast", then grew up and has played in Las Vegas almost exclusively. He has been in a few movies, the one that comes to mind at the moment is one of the Chevy Chase Vacation movies where the family go to Las Vegas.

He is a worldwide star, an institution, a frigin' landmark!! Though i'm not a huge fan (sorry to say). If you haven't heard of him or don't believe he has entered god-like status, don't worry. Soon you will reach puberty, soon after that you can steal your parent's car, and credit card, drive to vegas, and see for yourself.
