gee was the word used to make a horse or cattle turn.

Although i can't be certain i think the term just stuck, and gee gee became a childs word for horse!

I believe its from the way carters etc. used to urge their horses forward by saying 'gee-up'.

but it's not to do with american slang
turf accountants have always referred to the gee-gees over here as well
