How is accepting gay marriage pro-Constitution?

Who can quote the constitution?? Anyway, right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness................not allowing me to have a civil union with my partner takes away my liberties and sure as hell doesn't make me happy..........

The "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness" is from the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution.

The Constitution says "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty" . I believe that marriage is a "Blessing of Liberty".

The Bill of Rights says "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Therefore, anything not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution or Bill of Rights is an issue for the states to decide.

Also, Article 13:No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State.

Therefore, states that have already legalized gay marriage, even if the amendment was passed, would have the right to have the Amendment struck down as unConstitutional.

Now for my opinion:
Opposition to gay-marriage is bigotry and discrimination. It seeks to impose Old Testament Christian ideals on the American people. If Christians, of which I am one, chose to deny basic human rights to one group of people, why stop there? All sins are equal in the eyes of the Lord. Why not deny the right to marry to liars, adulterers, people who engage in pre-maritial sex, greedy people, etc.? Why pick on one sin when there are so many?

Rights are for everyone or no one. I chose to not be discriminatory. I don't condone homosexuality, because it is a sin, but there is no one without sin. Do we all deserve to be stripped of our basic human rights? Remember the "Do unto others" quote?

Making a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage un-American.

It restricts people's right to the pursuit of happiness.

The pursuit of happiness 'includes' financial security.

Homosexual couples should be entitled to the same benefits that heterosexual couples are entitled to.

The government has no business in the bedroom of two consenting adults.

The complaint is that it ruins the 'institution' of marriage but I can assure you in America, heterosexuals have ruined the institution enough. 50% divorce rate and like I always say, a large portion of the remaining 50% are most likely unhappy and/or infidels.

Congress shall make no laws restricting religion.Marriage is founded in religion and is described as between a man and a woman.
