why do chicken's body still move after u cut it off? how long can it go without the head?

a chickens body jumps and jerks due to the sudden trauma of having it's head chopped off as well as nerve and muscle reflexes. it usually only lasts about 15-30 seconds. i hope this helps.

The reflexes that are part of the chicken's spinal cord are still intact for some time even after decapitation. Therefore, the chicken can still run, stand, heart beat, etc. because of those reflexes. Later, though, the cells in these areas get short on oxygen and die. As that occurs, the reflexes then no longer are working and the chicken will fall down.

i learned about this is physiology...its because the brain stem is still intact, so the chicken can still move and such.if the brainstem were to be damage, then the chicken would die...but i dont know the longest time a chicken went without a head.

because the nerves are still reacting momentarily in shock... every muscle is performin it's last action before they ultimately fail (as there is no more response from the brain)... and then you pluck the manok, clean out the insides and make some adobo! yum... no diniguan for me, though... yuck...
