We all care, but the media are making him out to be the only person who is playing for England who can win the World Cup for us.....if I was playing for England I'd be getting seriously pissed off about it....especially if my name was Michael Owen.

The thing is, England are rubbish and don't stand a chance of winning the cup. But for some weird reason, many English fans seem to think they can. So, when they inevitably fail, they need a handy excuse they can use for why they didn't cut it, so that for the next 4 years their fans can go around saying, "We would have won the cup if Rooney hadn't been injured."

England's had some disappointing Cups in recent history and fans are on the edges of their seats in the runup to this weekend; it only comes once every 4 years, after all.
I'm certain there is plenty of public interest in his health to justify the constant media attention.

I'm supporting england in the world cup but i do agree with totally, it is getting a bit much! I just wonder if any of the other of the england squad would have had this much media attention if they'd injured themselves!! What makes him so special, there's other players who has played better and longer than him!!

I think the press are taking it too far but its the kick up the **** the rest of the team needed with everybody saying we can't win it without rooney. Thats crap look at Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Owen (maybe crouch) we have plenty of players who can score goals and creat chances. they have to pull there finger out.

Yeah, the obsession gets a bit over the top; the way the papers are going on it's like we are waiting for Lazarus to rise from the dead or something.
I mean, even if he is fit, it doesn't mean he will win the World Cup single-handedly (footed-ly?!!)

Good point. But if they it wasn't for Rooney we'd still be getting bored to death by Beckham. This time next year we'll all be sick to death of the words Theo Walcott. You can't win.

I agree, its a bit manic. However its hardly his fault that the press / TV go overboard about it. He probably has a good laugh at all the crap that is getting said about him.
