Yes, but not the way you think. It's an indirect effort that is VERY important.

WHY were we attacked on 9/11 (& lots of times before that), according to UBL? Because (in order): we had troops in the Saudi (Muslim Holy land) because they were scared of another invasion by Saddam; because we support some non-democratic regimes that are oppressive of extremism (just as we are of the KKK); and, because of our foreign military aide to Israel.

After 9/11 Saudi agreed to crack down on extremism, but said it would be helpful if we moved our troops elsewhere in the mid-east, but please stay close cause Saddam is still a threat. So we moved to Kuwait/Bahrain & removed the threat.

We support regimes in places like Saudi, Egypt, Turkey, etc because they suppress extremist who want to overthrow them in favor of terrorist backing theocracies. We also push them, & they are making progress, on political & cultural reform. We’ve always wanted that done faster, but they say it will cause civil war if not done over time with care. The best way to fix that is to plant the seeds of democracy in the middle of the Muslim world, in a country with a progressive population willing to let it grow over time, a place oh say like Iraq.

And finally, Israel. Our military support of that state began after they had bombers in the air to nuke (which they built from Jewish scientists that participated in the US program & went to Israel after we brought in Nazi rocket scientists after WWII in order to keep up with Russia) Cairo & Damascus, bombers that were turned back with a US negotiated peace & guarantee to keep Israel militarily balanced with the threats surrounding it. Our support for them is blackmail money to prevent nuclear attack on Muslim countries, but it’s to now been the price of peace & that’s fine.

Success in Iraq now will ultimately lead to a changed world down the road, a world that will put Islamic extremism behind us. This is the evil of our time, just as Nazis were a couple generations ago, and we must be prepared to sacrifice to an equal or greater level, or they will continue to expand in their stated goal of Islamic world domination, invasion, & annexation. That’s why we’re in Iraq, it always has been, WMD was for the UN not US interests. We have to win, we will win, and until you’re ready to sacrifice with us, just got easy on the rhetoric.
