My computer freezes when I try to get properties on any of my drives. And especially when I try anything with the floppy drive. How can I fix this? (WinXP)

Sounds like you have a virus...even if you already have a virus checker it may not be up to date. Best one I have found is...

go to http://www.download.com and download a free antivirus program called AVAST.

Good Luck

There could be a few things wrong here...

1. How long are you waiting until you determine your computer is frozen? Usually harddrive that are nearly full of data take longer for Windows to access than harddrives that have little or no data on them. Which relates to #2. On the flipside, Windows may not be actually freezing but just taking a while to process the data. There could be several factors to this as you'll see in #3.

2. How is the condition of your harddrive? Is it an old hard drive? Older harddrives don't run as fast or produce data as fast as newer harddrives. Additionally, if you have a lot of data on your harddrive, try defragging it to get rid of some of the congestion between data.

3. If all else fails, it's safe to assume that Windows is the culprit behind the freezing. In that case, you're faced with several factors that could cause Windows to malfunction or function slowly. Anything from spyware to a bad registry environment. Even a slow processor could be the case. The simplest but longest way is to reinstall Windows. Otherwise try scanning your computer for spyware, viruses, and check out the registry first to save you time and a headache.

I would defragment your hard drive. Check your properties and make sure you don't have a device conflict.
