The toe pad keeps the toe ring from slipping off. When you buy a toe ring, get the fitted kind, the kind which is solid all the way around. The adjustable ones pinch and break. Get it in 14k,or 18k gold if you can afford it. They are maintenance free, and never tarnish, like sterling silver.Sizing is everything when buying toe rings. Get the minimum size that will fit over your toe pad. It will"pop" in place on the index toe (the one next to the big toe) between the first and second joint, and rest there comfortable. There should be room for the ring to spin, which allows for normal swelling of the toes during the course of the day. You can wear a toe ring on any toe, but I find the index toe to be the most comfortable. I wear a 3mm,14k white gold toe ring on each foot, and it is like wearing nothing at all.It looks great.
hope this info will be helpful to you .

Open toe rings (adjustable) have the bad habbit of going belly up and you end up with the opening on the side or the upper part. It is best to find a closed toe ring that fits your toe in all conditions and stick with that, never again the problem of rings moving around.

You add little strips of metal or wood inside the inner ring and wedge them under the ring after you put it on your toe.
