My daughter asked me this question when we passed by a cemetery.

109,000 cemeteries. Im sure you could never know how many in actuallity since many are probably abandoned and overgrown or forgotten family burial sites. That is the number recognized by the National Geological Survey. I looked and could not find an acreage notation. Some of them are as big as 700 - 800 acres though, so there is quite a bit out there.

I'm not sure, but I have this theory that if we keep burying the dead AND our trash, soon the whole country will be filled with dead people and land-fills. Not a very efficient use of precious land in my opinion.
