You know if you have to go on a vacation for a few weeks? You have to put those pastels in the fish tank, and it is supposed to disolve over time. I was just wondering if they actually work, and if they will keep the fish alive for two weeks. Please explain to me how it worked for you if you ever used it.

i agree with the automatic feeder system or having a friend over to feed. If you do find someone to feed i would Pre bag up indivdual food doses in zippy bags or your well intentioned friend or neighbor might over feed. Vaction feeders are not eaten by all fish species, and what is not eaten will rot in your water causing your water chemistry to be off, and could lead to fish death. I have eight aquariums, and when i go on vaction (a week or more) i usually have someone feed my guys the pre bagged foods. If im only to be gone for a few days 2-3 i just dont feed my fish. Most fish can actually go long periods of time with out food, naturally out in the wild it would be hit or miss on how much food they got that day. Some fish hobbiest recommend a every other day feeding or once a week skipping a feeding to mimmic this. Also a great number of fish enjoy veggies and plants, in some situations depending on the species you have , it might be possible to purchase some live plants from a petstore and use that as a food source until you are home. good luck .

Two weeks would likely be too long. My experience is they do not dissolve at a consistent rate, do not last two weeks, and are more effective for short durations. Since the food is released at random, the distribution to all fish in the tank is not even.

An autofeeder, while more expensive, would be a better option. Also, you can provide the same food they usually get, in a timed measured amount so the fish know when the food is coming. In the long run, this also ensures that the fish are fed on a schedule even when you are home.

I have heard good and bad stories about those vacation feeders. Some say they are great and they would use them again but I have heard just as many stories about how they messed with the pH so bad it caused their fish to die.

If you cant get someone to come over and feed I would buy an auto feeder. Before you go on vacation though I would try it out for a few days to make sure its working good.

It works, but it is not great. And it hardens the water. You'll want to do a water change when you get back. If you have any expensive fish, hire a fish sitter.

if they are plain goldfish they should be OK for a couple of weeks without food anyway. this is especial true if you have live plants. the fish eat algy off gravel and lunch on the aqua plants.

I bought this one like cube and you put it in the bottom of your tank and it dissolves. It feeds the fish. So you can try that.

i don't know. i have never heard of anything like that. but i would try it if i were you, it's better than leaving the fish to starve or having someone come in to feed them.
