For economy, the Honda Civic.
For comfort, the Honda Accord, 4-cyl if you want to save money, V-6 if you prefer better acceleration and handling.
Both have top-notch reliability.
Last February, we replaced a Toyota Corolla LE with a Civic EX Sedan and a Mitsubishi Galant GS with an Accord V-6 EX. We're very satisfied with both cars.

Mustang V6 loaded, or Mustang GT plain without any anemities. I'd take the Mustang GT, because you can't beat a V8. But a V6 is still pretty fast.
